Scouting for food today

GREENVILLE — Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be performing another of their annual good deeds today, during the Scouting for Food program.

Scouting for Food is the largest single-day food collection event in Dallas/Fort Worth area and one of the largest in the nation.

On one day, approximately 30,000 Scouts go door-to-door collecting non-perishable food items for the less fortunate. The food is then distributed to local food pantries and assistance agencies across Circle Ten Council.

The Circle Ten Council, Tawakoni District covers Rains and Hunt  counties and the Royse City Independent School District. The Greenville Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops will be collecting for FISH Ministries.

This morning Scouts in uniform, along with their leaders, will be delivering bags to local residents by hanging them on doors and mailboxes.

The Scouts will return on the morning of Feb. 16 to collect the bags.

Anyone who does not receive a bag can still participate by dropping off food items at the Super One Foods store in Greenville during the month of February.

The local scouts will be meeting at 8 a.m. today Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church, 5905 Stonewall Street.

All Greenville scouting units are welcome to attend the Annual Scouting for Food gathering, which will feature doughnuts, coffee, a safety briefing and fellowship.
