Bond reduction denied in convenience store robbery case

GREENVILLE — A state district judge has refused to reduce the bond of a local man, charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the reported armed hold-up of a Greenville convenience store.

Courtney Dewayne Jackson, 24, of Greenville, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond on a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Jackson had filed a writ of habeas corpus from the jail and 196th District Court Judge Steve Tittle had previously appointed an attorney to represent Jackson on the writ.

During a hearing in the court Wednesday morning, Tittle declined any reduction in the bond.

Officers with the Green-ville Police Department were dispatched shortly before 10 p.m. January 24 to a report of a robbery in progress at the store in the 2500 block of Wellington Street.

The clerk on duty offered a description of the suspect, who was wearing a mask, and the handgun used in the robbery.

Officers later found Jackson at a residence on Barling Street, and recovered a 9 mm handgun, a mask and cash believed taken during the hold-up.

Aggravated robbery is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
