Blitzing for the United Way

GREENVILLE — Owners of small businesses in Hunt County can expect an extra knock on the door today.

The 2012 United Way of Hunt County Wanda Gilmore Small Business Blitz is being conducted today, according to United Way of Hunt County Executive Director Bob Mason.

Gilmore, who died in 2009, was a Caddo Mills resident and avid supporter of the community and also was a longtime member of the United Way board of directors.

“And it was Wanda who came up with the idea of having a Small Business Blitz,” Mason said.

During the Blitz, United Way of Hunt County volunteers will contact hundreds of small businesses in the area.

“They will be asking for donations to help the 14 different agencies the United Way of Hunt County helps,” Mason said.

Owners of many of the businesses have already been contacted about today’s event and know the volunteers are coming. For those who have not previously been contacted, Mason said the volunteers will be carrying appropriate identification.

“The volunteers will identify themselves before asking for the donation,” Mason said.

The Small Business Blitz concept which Gilmore originated has proven extraordinarily successful, and not just for the United Way of Hunt County.

“Now United Way chapters all over the United States are hosting Small Business Blitzes,” Mason said.
