Council to consider used car lot

GREENVILLE — The Greenville City Council intends Tuesday to vote on whether to grant a permit which would allow a used car sales lot to open on Wesley Street.

The Council is scheduled to conduct a public hearing, before voting whether to grant a conditional use permit for the facility, during Tuesday’s regular session starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted last month to recommend approval of the issuance of a conditional use permit to Dean Bradley, representing Agrarius, LLC (dba EZ Auto), for the lot at 5900 Wesley Street.

The lot is adjacent to the intersection with Eastland Street and is across from American National Bank.

The property is zoned for general retail, which allows for used automobile sales facilities with a conditional use permit.

In a memo to the Council, City Planner Lance Estep noted the site is currently a vacant developed parcel of land with one small office building and two carports, which had previously been used as a used car sales facility for years.

Estep has recommended the Council grant the permit, provided the property owner paint the metal post fence black and remove the taller poles;, as well as resurface and restripe the parking area to city specifications, complete with traffic control pavement markings.
