First week in October celebrates extension education service

GREENVILLE — In celebration of 100 years of Texas Extension Education Association, Judge John Horn has proclaimed Oct. 1 to 7 as Extension Education Association Focus Week.

The Extension program has undergone several name changes over the years. It was first known as Home Demonstration Clubs, then Extension Homemakers Clubs or Family and Community Education prior to the current designation.

Texas Extension Education Association Inc. works with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to strengthen and enrich families through educational programs, leadership development and community service.

In Hunt County there are four active Extension Education clubs: Caddo Mills, Campbell, Liberty and Variety. Members take part in many civic and county endeavors such as workshops to sew and decorate Alzheimer aprons for nursing homes, four leader-training workshops throughout the year, sewing house shoes for residents of Terrell State Hospital and local nursing homes, and participation in the Hunt County Fair.

Members ended the past year with a reception for the Campbell EE Club which was celebrating its 90th anniversary, and to honor Mary Sue Cole, the Hunt Family and Consumer Services/Economic Development agent.
