The Texas edition of the National Night Out will be celebrated Tuesday in three Hunt County cities.
Caddo Mills and Commerce will have central locations for the event, while multiple neighborhoods in Greenville intend to host activities.
— The City of Caddo Mills will be hosting its Second Annual National Night Out from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Main and Gilmer Streets at the Old Cotton Gin. The Caddo Mills Police and Fire/Rescue Departments will be on hand and the Caddo Mills Lions Club will also be at the event. Hot dogs and drinks will be served, there will be bounce houses and face painting for the kids, along with live music and a race car. There is also expected to be a drawing for door prizes.
— The 2012 National Night Out in Commerce will be observed at the Morris Recreation Center on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus, between 5 and 8 p.m. Tuesday. The event is scheduled to include participation from several agencies with free food, a petting zoo, live music, a dunking booth and more.
— Greenville Police Department Officer Chris McCaslin is currently signing up neighborhoods which may be interested in hosting an activity Tuesday night. At least five local neighborhoods had agreed to participate as of last week.
The National Night Out is sponsored each year by the National Association of Town Watch to encourage people in neighborhoods across the country to come together and get to know each other, while meeting with law enforcement authorities and learning ways how to prevent crime, drug abuse and violence in their communities.
Greenville has received several awards from the organization in the past, recognizing the city’s event as among the best in the nation for cities with populations of 15,000-49,999.
The City of Greenville did not conduct an August event this year, and has hosted the National Night Out in October once before, in 2007.
Anyone wanting to host an activity, or who may want additional information, can contact McCaslin by calling 903-457-2998.
