GREENVILLE —
Downtown Greenville should be a pretty safe place Wednesday evening, as there will be dozens of superheroes on hand.
On the other hand, there may also be an assortment of supervillians, witches, vampires or ghosts.
The annual Halloween on the Square event is offering free candy, games and fun, and is only one of several events scheduled during the upcoming week.
— The City of Greenville, along with Hunt County, DrugFree Greenville and downtown merchants are hosting Halloween on the Square from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Lee, Stonewall, Washington and Johnson Streets bordering the Courthouse Square will be closed and businesses will be opening their doors for trick-or-treaters. Halloween on the Square has been known to draw more than 1,000 children and their parents to participate. Live music will be performed by Bad Moon Rising, a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute band.
There will be costume contests for ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12 starting at 5 p.m. on the north steps of the courthouse and there will be inflatable slides and a bounce house along with free popcorn, cotton candy and bottled water.
The City of Greenville also recognizes Wednesday, October 31 as the official day for children to trick or treat locally.
— Southwood Christian Church, 1304 Jack Finney Boulevard in Greenville, is hosting a Free Fall Fun Fest, with crafts, food and fun, between 5 and 7 p.m. tonight.
— Crossroads Mall, 6834 Wesley Street in Greenville, will offer indoor trick-or-treating starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
— The City of Commerce presents the annual Halloween on the Square event at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
— The City of Emory will have Trunk or Treat on the downtown square between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday.
— A trunk or treat is scheduled at West Tawakoni City Park from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
— Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 6801 Wesley Street in Greenville, is hosting a Hallelujah Harvest with fun, food and games between 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
— Cornerstone Community Church, 6606 Wesley Street in Greenville, has a trunk or treat scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
— Shady Grove Baptist Church, 3507 FM 499, Greenville, has scheduled a Fall Festival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a bounce house, slide, games, candy and more.
— Faith Outreach Church, 1501 Division Street in Greenville has Hallelujah Night scheudled starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday with free hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, candy, a bounce-house, dunking booth and games.
— First Baptist Church of Farmersville, 124 South Washington Street, is having a free fall fest with bounce houses, games, trunk or treat and a hayride, starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
— Highland Terrace Baptist Church, 3939 Joe Ramsey Boulevard in Greenville, has trunk or treat, along with rides, games and a play, scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
— Lone Oak United Methodist Church is hosting trunk or treat, starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
— Vansickle Baptist Church, 2181 County Road 2246, Greenville, is hosting its annual Fall Festival with games, a bounce house, popcorn, candy, a barrel train and more starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
— Westview United Methodist Church, 6407 Sayle Street in Greenville, will be having Trunk of Treat between 6 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
— The “Haunt House” will be open Wednesday night at 4935 Interstate 30 West in Caddo Mills, with a special “Frights Out” event scheduled November 3. The “Haunt House” is described as a walk-through attraction “filled with terrifying live actors, Hollywood style sets and incredible monsters.” Admission is $17 per person, with VIP tickets available for $7 more and with free parking. — The Haunted Landmark, a project of the Greenville Rotary Club, was built inside the Landmark on Lee Street, 2920 Lee in downtown Greenville.
