GREENVILLE —
Motorists will soon be able to legally drive a little faster along Traders Road.
The Greenville City Council is scheduled to consider increasing the speed limit along the roadway, with the vote included under Tuesday’s regular session agenda, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The former two-lane asphalt roadway was widened over the summer to a four-lane curb and gutter thoroughfare between State Highway 34/Wesley Street and FM 1570/Jack Finney Boulevard.
Following the completion of the project late last month, Director of Public Works Massoud Ebrahim ordered a traffic study to determine whether the existing 40 mph speed limit need to be increased.
A similar study was completed once Roy Warren Parkway, formerly Dent Road, was widened from two to four lanes a few years ago, which resulted in the raising of the speed limit from 40 to 45 mph.
In a memo to the Council, Ebrahim said the study has been completed and that he is recommending that the speed limit along Traders Road also be increased from 40 to 45 mph.
