GREENVILLE —
A second Caddo Mills resident has pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in organized crime and forgery in connection with the passing of counterfeit currency at two Commerce fast food restaurants.
During a Tuesday morning hearing in the 354th District Court, Jeffrey Edward Mowrer Jr. entered the pleas to one count each of engaging in organized criminal activity and three counts of forgery.
Under a plea bargain arrangement, Mowrer, 20, was sentenced to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Mowrer was facing a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison on the engaging in organized criminal activity charge and up to 10 years in prison on each of the forgery charges.
Caleb Allen Marsh, 21, entered guilty pleas to the same charges Oct. 1 and was placed on six years of deferred adjudication probation, with 200 hours of community service and a $2,000 fine.
The Hunt County grand jury returned the indictments July 27 against Mowrer, Marsh and Chelsea Raeleen Shepperd.
Shepperd, 20, also of Caddo Mills has pleaded not guilty and has a tentative trial date of Dec. 3 in the case.
The indictments allege the three passed counterfeit $50 bills at the Commerce McDonald’s and Taco Bell restaurants on Feb. 12.
