GREENVILLE —
Details are expected to be released Friday morning concerning a late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning drug raid by local and federal law enforcement officers in southern Hunt County.
The raid was apparently part of an area wide action across multiple counties.
Residents of the area near the Kitsee Inlet of Lake Tawakoni told the Herald-Banner they observed aerial units search the region surrounding State Highway 34 and Hunt County Road 3702, about seven miles south of Quinlan, during the operation.
When reached at around 11:30 a.m. today, Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said his deputies joined federal officers in a narcotics interdiction raid.
“So far we have 11 in custody,” Meeks said. “It has been like a nine month investigation.”
Meeks later explained an official announcement concerning the raid was to be issued by federal authorities.
The office of United States Attorney John M. Bales issued a notice this afternoon that Bales would be releasing a statement at 10 a.m. Friday to announce indictments and arrests in a major drug trafficking investigation in the area of Hunt, Smith, Collin and Grayson counties.
