GEUS board to vote on YMCA/events center project

GREENVILLE — The board of the local electric utility system intends this week to consider backing a proposal for a combined new YMCA and events center in Greenville.

The GEUS board of trustees is also set to discuss the status of the search for a new assistant general manager, during a special session starting at noon Friday in the in the GEUS operations center, 6000 Joe Ramsey Boulevard in Greenville.

Under new business, the board is scheduled to discuss and possibly take action on the its position concerning the proposed $15 million YMCA and events center project, which may be added to the May municipal election ballot in Greenville.

Under old business, the board plans to discuss and possibly take action on the status of the recruit process for a candidate for the position of GEUS assistant general manager.

GEUS General Manager David McCalla had served the utility as assistant general manager until moving up to replace the retiring Tom Darte in 2006.

In October 2012, the board considered a proposal from the firm of Mycoff, Fry & Prouse to conduct the search for 28 percent of the annual agreed upon salary of the assistant general manager, with a minimum fee of $39,000, plus expenses.

The fee would be payable with one-third of the estimated total in advance; one third when the firm submits a long list of candidates and the balance when the winning candidate begins employment.
