From staff reports
Caleb Slinkard has accepted a position as the editor of the Herald-Banner.
Slinkard graduated with a degree in journalism from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He has served as the editor of the Commerce Journal since the fall of 2011 and the Herald-Banner weekly editor since August 2012. Before holding that position, he worked for the Herald-Banner as a paginator.
“I am pleased that Caleb has agreed to accept this position as our new Herald-Banner Editor,” Lisa Chappell, publisher of the Herald-Banner, said. “Caleb has proven his abilities as the editor of our weekly publications, it was a natural fit for him to move up into this position. I am confident that Caleb will do a great job leading our newsroom.”
Slinkard also served as the campus life editor, managing and editor of The East Texan, the student newspaper for A&M-Commerce. He was the president of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association in 2009. He will be replacing Derek Price, who recently resigned from the newspaper to run his own media company.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take on this responsibility,” Slinkard said. “I look forward to working with the editorial staff and other departments to produce quality products that serve the wants and needs of the Greenville and Hunt County communities.”
Slinkard has been a Hunt County resident since the early 2000s and currently resides in Greenville. His brother, Joshua, is the program director for the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Texas.
