GREENVILLE —
The Greenville Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women) will sponsor its final used book sale on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center Resources and Public Transit, Inc., 4912 Lee.
The organization has held this fund-raiser every fall since 1959. An alternative fund-raising activity will be announced in the near future.
.Donors have been very generous with books this year which include topics such as gardening , World War II, cooking, crafts, romance, mystery, suspense, history, children’s books, etc. Prices will be radically reduced.
A variety of nuts and mixes will also be available for purchase. The organization will be selling nuts until mid-December. Pecans and walnuts will be available after Nov. 1.
AAUW presents two scholarships to college-bound students annually. A committee from AAUW was the motivating force that began the Hunt County Historical Museum, now known as the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum. Members still actively participate in its progress. Another project under consideration is volunteering at Kavanaugh Methodist Church’s Kava Kids program.
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Any graduate of an accredited college, university or associate degree program is eligible to join. All meetings are open to the public. Each quarter the group holds a “‘Meet and Greet” at a local restaurant to allow interested parties to learn about the organization.
