Hearing scheduled in K2 arrest

GREENVILLE — A local man is hoping for a reduction in his bond, after being arrested last week and charged in connection with a raid by law enforcement authorities on a Hunt County convenience store which was allegedly selling the illegal substance known as K2.

A bond hearing is scheduled Monday in the 196th District Court for Sukhwinder Singh.

Singh, 47, of Greenville was arrested at the Campbell Store February 26 and was charged the next day with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 2, over 1 ounce and under 4 ounces. He remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail Saturday in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said several bags of what appeared to be K2, items used to smoke the drug and currency were seized by authorities.

Meeks explained the search warrant served on the store and Singh’s arrest were the result of an undercover operation by the sheriff’s office, adding that additional arrests and charges connected to the raid were possible.

K2 is often marketed as incense or potpourri, and, while no scientific studies have been completed on the drug’s long-term effects, it can have devastating consequences, such as seizures, hallucinations and elevated heart rates.
