Special Olympics Comedy ??? Showcase Saturday night

GREENVILLE — For a decade, a group of dedicated local performers have not been afraid to make a spectacle of themselves in an effort to support a worthy cause.

The tradition continues this weekend, during the 10th Annual Comedy Talent?? Showcase. Although the dinner is sold out the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday inside the Paul Mathews Auditorium at Greenville High School auditorium. The Comedy ??? Showcase, sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, benefits the Hunt County Special Olympics. Tickets are $6 each, can be purchased at the door, and the money raised by the event goes toward helping more than 130 athletes participate in local, area and state meets.

The show was begun 10 years ago Rick and Brittney Kohn.

“We are very excited to have another successful fundraiser for our athletes,” Rick said. “The continued support of our sponsors and community have provided many years of our athletes being able to participate in games not only on local level but also area and state levels. It means so much to our athletes as this is the only time most our athletes get a chance to travel and to participate with other athletes on their level.”

Hunt County Special Olympics athletes have participated in events in Dallas, Arlington, Austin, San Marcus and College Station.

“We rely strictly on money raised locally” he said. “We receive no funding other than the money we raise, so without the support of the community we wouldn’t be able to provide the program that we do. Want to say a Special thank you to all of our sponsors and to our community that continually make this possible. The show has grown to a level that my daughter and I never expected.”

This year’s show will be Greenville’s version of “The Bachelor.”

“It promises to be a night of laughter,” he said. “Many business men and women participate in the show and occasionally audience members are ‘volunteered’ to participate. Also the Special Olympic Athletes will be performing and they are very excited.”
