GREENVILLE —
Opening arguments and the start of testimony are scheduled this morning in the trial of Tyrone Leorone McCurdy, charged with murder connection with a 2011 shooting death in Greenville.
A jury was seated Tuesday in the 196th District Court. The trial is set to begin in the court at 10:30 a.m. today.
McCurdy and Bernard Dale Kelly Jr. both of Greenville, have each pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in connection with the shooting death of Treybbian Leekey Nelson of Greenville.
Kelly currently has trial scheduled in December.
Officers with the Greenville Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of Edgar Street on the afternoon of February 8, 2011 where they found Nelson had been shot.
The indictments allege McCurdy, Kelly and an unnamed juvenile “knowingly and intentionally” caused Nelson’s death by shooting him with a firearm, or in the alternative, caused Nelson’s death by shooting him or in his direction while having the intent to commit aggravated assault.
Murder is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison.
