Early voting tops 5,000 ballots

GREENVILLE — Early voting for the November 6 elections in Hunt County topped more than 5,000 ballots Thursday.

Faced with what has been an unprecedented demand, Hunt County Elections Administrator Mina Cook announced her office was expanding early voting next week, with additional hours scheduled on two days.

Cook said another 975 people voted early by personal appearance Thursday, with 35 ballots arriving by mail, four limited ballots and three military ballots. The 1,017 ballots cast Thursday raised the early vote total in Hunt County to 5,289 early ballots through the first four days of early voting.

Early voting for the elections began Monday and will continue through November 2.

Voting will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at the Hunt County Voter Administration Office, 2217 Washington Street in downtown Greenville. Extended early voting has been scheduled at the office between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday and between 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Cook announced Thursday that early voting will be expanded to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday, October 31-November 1.

The record total number of ballots cast during an early voting period in the county, 13,273, was set during the 2008 general elections.
