Commissioners approve substation for southern Hunt County

GREENVILLE — The Hunt County Commissioners Court Tuesday approved the a sheriff substation in the southern part of Hunt County.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said the lease agreement has been looked over and approved.

“(Attorney) Daniel Ray has gone over the lease agreement and given it the ok,” he said. “It is estimated that $10,000 or less will be spent on renovating the building for use.”

Meeks said the building should be operational within the next few months.

“The project should be completed by the first of the year before we can get it up and running,” he said. “We will have a place where the Justice of the Peace can come in and have an office.”

According to Meeks, this will help the citizens of Quinlan voice their opinions to the commissioner.

“We look for this to be a place where the commissioner can come in here to have an office where citizens can come instead of driving all the way up to Greenville,” Meeks said.

In the lease agreement, the lease will not cost the sheriff’s department, but it will pay the taxes on the building.

“The taxes will be paid out of the Crime Control fund,” he said.
