GREENVILLE —
A lack of a left turn at a busy intersection has officials with one local hotel upset.
Byron Taylor, director of sales for the Hampton Inn & Suites of Greenville, sent out an e-mail Thursday afternoon to members of the Greenville City Council and representatives of the Greenville office of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), asking for a meeting to discuss plans for the intersection of Wesley Street and Kari Lane.
In the e-mail, Taylor said he understood that the upgrades to the intersection, part of the overall project to widen the Wesley Street overpass across Interstate 30, had been completed, but with no left turns allowed from Kari onto northbound Wesley Street.
“Kari Lane is an important exit and safest access onto Wesley Street for several key businesses, residents, sports park, fire vehicles, and others,” Taylor wrote. “We would also like to find out if a left turn will be allowed onto Kari Lane when headed North on Wesley Street. This information was not disclosed when the project was laid out nor presented at the open public meeting at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center before work began.”
When reached Friday, TxDOT Greenville Area Engineer Tammy B. Sims confirmed that the work at the intersection had been completed and said a left turn would no longer be allowed.
A meeting between representatives with the hotel, TxDOT and the City of Greenville has been scheduled for the afternoon of Feb. 22.
