GREENVILLE —
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Paul Sadler will be the special guest at a breakfast hosted Friday by the Hunt County Democratic Party, said Chairperson Smith Gilley.
The breakfast will be at the historic Dairy Manor at 5400 Business U.S. Highway 69 South in Greenville, Gilley said. The event starts at 8 a.m. and costs $15. Tickets are available at the door.
“We are delighted Paul will have the opportunity to meet Hunt County voters. We invite all those interested in his message to attend,” said Gilley. “Paul Sadler shares our small-town family values. He took those values to the Texas Legislature and used them to work with other legislators to cut our taxes and become a champion for education. There is no doubt he will do the same in the U.S. Senate.”
The Henderson, Texas native served six terms in the Texas Legislature from 1991 to 2003. Sadler served as chair of the House Public Education Committee, where he led the effort to enact pay raises for teachers in three consecutive sessions for the first time in Texas history, Gilley said.
“Paul also passed the largest property tax cut in Texas history during his time in the Legislature while managing to increase funding for schools,” Gilley said.
Gilley further explained Sadler chaired the Select Committee on State Revenue and Public School Finance, and he later chaired the Select Committee on Public School Employee Health Insurance.
“He was the only House member to chair two committees at the same time, “Gilley said. “And Paul had dual chairmanships in two different sessions.
“Sadler is known for reaching across the aisle and working with others to get things done for Texas,” said Gilley.
He cited Sadler’s work with Republican State Senator Bill Ratliff to rewrite Texas’s entire Education Code in 1995 as a prime example.
“Paul was an exceptional legislator for Texas,” Gilley said. Texas Monthly named him to their ‘Ten Best List’ four sessions in a row. The Dallas Morning News named him one of three “Outstanding Legislators” and later named him one of “Six Stellar” legislators. He also received the Award for Excellence in Education from the Just for the Kids Foundation, as well as similar awards from the Texas State Teachers Association and every other education group in Texas.
“Paul cares about and understands Texas. He has demonstrated he will work tirelessly for what’s best for Texas families. I hope all Hunt County citizens take advantage of the opportunity to meet Paul on September 14 and hear his plan for Texas first-hand,” Gilley said.
