Indictments filed in shootout with deputies

GREENVILLE — A Quinlan man has been indicted on charges alleging he pointed a weapon at two Hunt County Sheriff’s officers during a drug raid last summer.

Corey Hayes Parker, 32, was wounded during the incident. The two officers who fired on Parker were cleared Friday by the Hunt County grand jury.

Parker received two indictments for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant. Parker was alleged in the indictments to have pointed a shotgun at Sgt. Mike Radney and Deputy Kelly Phillips in August of last year, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire with the officers.

Both of the indictments are first degree felonies, each punishable by a maximum sentence upon conviction of from five to 99 years to life in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.

The grand jury returned “no bills” for Radney and Phillips Friday. A no bill is issued when the grand jury determines an investigation did not find sufficient evidence to issue an indictment.

Parker remains in custody the Hunt County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team served a narcotics search warrant at a home on Private Road 3837 off of North Shore Road early on the morning of Aug. 2, 2012. Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said the search warrant revealed multiple weapons, methamphetamines, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Following his arrest, Parker was also charged with one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance of more than one but less than 200 grams.

The status of any indictments concerning the controlled substance charge was not immediately available Friday.

A date for an arraignment hearing on the indictments has not been scheduled.
