GREENVILLE —
The Summer of Safety, sponsored by the Greenville Police Department, has been helping local children beat the heat for years, by providing free and safe activities.
This year there is a new event included under the program, and it is indoors.
Movie Friday is scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon Friday inside the Greenville Middle School Auditorium, and includes free popcorn and a movie.
Greenville Police Department Student Services Officers Richard Calender and James Hamilton supervise the program,. alongside volunteers from the Greenville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and the Greenville Police Explorers post.
Calender said that due to copyright issues, he could not publicize the name of the movie which will be shown in advance.
“But it is a good one,” Calender said. “It is rated G.”
— The second annual Kids Camp will be held July 9-13 at the Greenville ISD Sixth Grade Center and is for children who have successfully completed the fifth grade and will be attending sixth grade in the fall.
Anyone needing additional information about the Summer of Safety program can contact Calender at 903-453-0435 or by email at rcalender@ci.greenville.tx.us, or Hamilton at 903-453-0432 or by email at jhamilton@ci.greenville.tx.us.
