Nice night for a parade Friday

GREENVILLE — The weather for Friday night’s downtown Christmas parade in Greenville should be just about perfect.

Participants and spectators can expect an unseasonably warm night, although it might still be a little windy as the floats line up for the event.

It may also be a nice night to donate food for the area’s needy families.

The annual downtown Christmas parade starts at 7 p.m. Friday, with the theme of “A Storybook Christmas.”

Pre-parade music will be offered by the Phoenix Charter School, starting at 6 p.m. on the north Steps of the Hunt County Courthouse.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 73 Friday afternoon. Winds are expected to be out of the south at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast for Friday night, with a low around 57. South-southwest winds around 5 mph are expected, becoming calm in the evening.

One float in the parade is being dedicated to assisting the less fortunate in the community have a better Christmas.

The Hunt County Gives program also hoping to “Fill The Float” during the parade. Those attending the parade are being asked to bring a bag of canned goods. Volunteers will collect the bags from the crowd and place it on the Hunt County Gives Float as it proceeds through the parade.
