Windy Washington's Birthday, wet Wednesday and Thursday

GREENVILLE — The gusting winds are expected to continue for a while, and we have already seen a gust of 30 mph at majors Field Municipal Airport today. There is also a chance of storms this afternoon, and a better chance of rain in the middle of the week.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for a 40 percent chance of showers today, with thunderstorms also possible after noon and a steady temperature around 65. It will be mostly clear tonight, with a low around 36.

On Wednesday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 51. East southeast wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are also likely Wednesday night into Thursday morning, mainly after midnight Wednesday.  Mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 56 by 8 p.m. East southeast wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

The Texas Forest Service has listed Hunt County and most of Northeast Texas under "moderate" fire danger conditions today, due to the high winds.

Hunt County is not currently under a burn ban, although there are still certain restrictions to outdoor burning. The burning of household trash is only permissible during daylight hours and the wind speed cannot be greater then 23 mph. Natural materials, such as brush and limbs can be burned, but not treated or painted lumber. No prohibited material — including but not limited to rubber, plastics, wire, insulation and furniture — can be burned, and a responsible person must be present during active burning.
