Thompson, burglary and standoff suspect, arrested then released on bond

GREENVILLE — A local man, who had been sought by law enforcement authorities for a week in connection with an alleged burglary in Van Zandt County and a standoff outside of a Greenville residence, was returned to custody overnight.

The Greenville Police Department reported Thursday morning that Brandon Cole Thompson of Greenville, sought by police on a burglary warrant out of Van Zandt County, had been arrested, but was later released from custody on bond.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday the Greenville Police Department received information that Thompson had returned to his residence in the 2300 block of Rabb Street. Officers responded and arrested Thompson without incident.

Thompson was served with a burglary of a habitation warrant issued out of Van Zandt County and was placed in the Hunt County Jail where he was to be arraigned and subsequently transported to Van Zandt County. Thompson was released on bond from the Van Zandt County Jail Thursday afternoon.

The status of any pending local charges was not immediately available. Thompson was believed to have been barricaded inside the Rabb Street residence throughout the day January 31, but when tactical officers entered the home that night, they discovered Thompson was not inside.

According to a statement from the police department, the burglary in Van Zandt County was interrupted by the homeowner, who then traveled to Greenville to confront Thompson at Thompson’s residence.
