Flash flood watch posted for area

GREENVILLE — Here is something we haven't seen around here for quite a while. The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for Hunt County and most of North Texas, due to the heavy rains which are expected to cross the region between now and Wednesday night:

FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

* AVERAGE RAINFALL TOTALS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING WIDESPREAD RAIN TO THE REGION TODAY...TONIGHT...AND WEDNESDAY. PROLONGED MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WILL RESULT IN EXCESSIVE  RUNOFF. THIS MAY LEAD TO FLOODING OF CREEKS...SMALL STREAMS...NORMALLY DRY CREEK BEDS...POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...AND SOME LOW WATER CROSSINGS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR HEAVY RAIN WHICH MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. YOU SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD WARNINGS BE ISSUED FOR YOUR AREA.
