County, neighbors among driest in Texas

Hunt County is one of the driest places in Texas, according to drought statistics released Saturday.

The county was ranked at number seven, with three neighbors also cracking the top 10 list of counties having the highest averages under the Keetch-Byram Drought Index.

The number one county is only a quick road trip away.

The Keetch-Byram Drought Index measures soil moisture. A reading of 800 is the highest on the scale, meaning that it would take eight or more inches of rainfall to bring the soil to saturation.
