Guilty plea, sentence in Quinlan ISD burglary

GREENVILLE — A Quinlan man has pleaded guilty and has received stacked sentences on multiple felony counts, including indictments in connection with a break-in at a Quinlan Independent School District building.

Chance Dakota Jeffcoat agreed Thursday to plead guilty to all five charges, following a hung jury and a mistrial this week on one of the indictments.

Jeffcoat, 22, pleaded guilty to two indictments for burglary of a building and one indictment each for theft of material, possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

A jury trial was conducted this week in the 196th District Court on one of the counts, initially filed as a burglary of a habitation with intent to commit theft.  Jeffcoat was alleged in the indictment of breaking into a residence on Sept. 17, 2011.

After the jury in the case was unable to come to a verdict regarding guilt or innocence, Jeffcoat agreed to a plea bargain arrangement, in which the charge was reduced to burglary of a building.

Jeffcoat was one of two people alleged in the indictments to have broken into a Quinlan ISD building on Sept. 29, 2012 and to have stolen a 2012 Ford Fusion; as well as tools, keys, a radiator, copper and other items.

Jeffcoat was also indicted for the possession of methamphetamine and stealing tubing, valves and a coil from the Agape Church on FM 751 in Quinlan on Jan. 7, 2011.

Under the agreement, Jeffcoat was sentenced to two years in a state jail for the school district burglary and the stolen vehicle charge, with the sentences to run concurrently, and six months in a state jail for the three remaining charges, which will be served after the conclusion of the first sentence.
