County approves $1 vehicle registration hike

GREENVILLE — It will cost county residents a little more to register their vehicles, but the Hunt County Commissioners Court believes the money will be going to a good cause.

The Commissioners voted Tuesday to add a $1 fee to the vehicle registration cost, with the proceeds going toward assisting the Hunt County Children’s Advocacy Center.

County Judge John Horn addressed the Commissioners as vice president of the center’s board of directors.

“I felt compelled to make this presentation myself,” Horn said, adding that recent cuts in state and federal funding were expected to leave the center, which provides services to victims of sexual assault and child abuse, with a projected gap of $61,000 in the coming year’s budget.
