GREENVILLE —
The Greenville City Council intends to conduct closed door discussions Tuesday concerning some potential economic development projects, including the proposed Splash Kingdom water park.
The Council may also discuss the status of the contract of City Manager Steve Alexander during the executive sessions scheduled during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Splash Kingdom is wanting to build a water park in Greenville, as part of the Greenville Towne Center development.
The Splash Kingdom proposal has been referred to under a code name of “Project Splash” as negotiations with the company have continued.
The Council is scheduled to discuss Project Splash Tuesday under Section 551.072 of the Local Government Code, which allows for a “discussion with respect to the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property, when such discussion would have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of the governmental body.”
The Council is also scheduled to discuss 13 other code-named projects under the same section, including Downtown-Treadway, Rounder, Retread, Red Pepper, Raze, Peary, Focus, Green, Salary, Fuel, Ruby Tuesday, “S”, Spark JC.
The same 14 projects are also to be discussed in executive session Tuesday under Section 551.087 of the Local Government Code, which allows for a “discussion or deliberation regarding commercial or financial information that the governmental body has received from a business prospect that the governmental body seeks to have locate, stay, or expand in or near the territory of the governmental body is conducting development negotiations.”
The Council is also scheduled to discuss Alexander’s contract under Section 551.074 of the Local Government Code, which allows for a “meeting involving the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee or to hear complaints or charges against a public officer or employee.”
Should the Council decide to take any action on any of the items discussed Tuesday in executive session, it would return to the regular meeting in order to do so.
