Room for any more blue in Greenville?

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Police Department is looking for one or more entry level officers for the local squad.

Applications are currently being accepted for a police officer examination which is scheduled next month.

The entry level officer test will be given at 9 a.m. March 23 at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center. Interested applicants must apply prior to March 20.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and no older than 44, possess a valid drivers license with no prior felony convictions, and vision must be a minimum of binocular 20/200 corrected to 20/20.  Applicants with prior military service must have an honorable discharge.

Minimum education standards include either a high school diploma or; a high school equivalency certificate with a minimum of 12 hours from an institution of higher education with at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or; a high school equivalency certificate and an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least 24 months of active duty service.

The starting salary for an entry level officer is $3,623 per month, or $43,476 per year. Under the police department’s “lateral entry program” applicants previously certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE), who have at least six years, service can earn up to $4,875 per month, or $58,500 per year.
