Commerce murder focus of cable documentary

The murder of a Commerce code enforcement officer will be the subject of a documentary program Sunday night.

The death of Michael “Pee Wee” Walker is featured during the program on the Investigation Discovery Channel. “Fatal Encounters/In His Father’s Eyes” is scheduled to be presented at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Adam Kelly Ward was convicted in 2007 of capital murder and is currently facing the death penalty.

Crews with the channel reenacted the shooting at locations in Commerce and Greenville last summer.

Walker was working as a code enforcement officer for the City of Commerce when shortly after 10 a.m. on June 13, 2005, he was taking photos of alleged code violations at the home where Ward lived on Caddo Street in Commerce.

According to testimony from several witnesses, Ward objected and the two argued, with Ward spraying Walker with a hose. Walker called 911 on his cell phone while Ward ran into the house, grabbed a .45 caliber pistol and two loaded clips.

Ward returned to the scene and began chasing Walker, shooting him as many as nine times, before Ward’s father took the weapon away.

Ward does not currently have an execution date scheduled.

The Investigation Discovery Channel is available in Greenville on GEUS Cable at Channel 105, on AT&T U-Verse on Channel 260, on Time Warner Cable on Channel 111, on Direct TV on Channel 285 and on the Dish Network on Channel 192.
