GREENVILLE —
A Caddo Mills man has pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in organized crime and forgery, alleging he passed counterfeit currency at two Commerce fast food restaurants.
Caleb Allen Marsh, 21, entered the pleas to one indictment of engaging in organized criminal activity and three counts of forgery of a government instrument, during a hearing Monday in the 354th District Court. Under a plea bargain arrangement, Marsh was placed on six years of deferred adjudication probation, with 200 hours of community service and a $2,000 fine.
The Hunt County grand jury returned the indictments July 27 against Marsh, Chelsea Raeleen Shepherd and Jeffrey Edward Mowrer Jr.
Shepherd, 20, also of Caddo Mills pleaded not guilty and has a tentative trial date of December 3 in the case.
Mowrer, 20, received one indictment for forgery and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
The indictments allege the three passed counterfeit $50 bills at the Commerce McDonald’s and Taco Bell restaurants on Feb. 12.
Deferred adjudication probation carries no finding of guilt, although those defendants who are found to have violated a deferred probation are subject to being sentenced to the maximum punishment.
Marsh was facing a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison on the engaging in organized criminal activity charge and up to 10 years in prison on each of the forgery charges.
