GREENVILLE —
The Texas Historical Commission has recognized the Lane Cemetery as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical marker. The designation honors the Lane Cemetery and the Lane Community as an important part of local history.
A dedication ceremony to commemorate the event with the unveiling of the marker will be held Oct. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lane Cemetery. Members of the public and former and current members of the Lane Community are encouraged to share and witness the event.
A historical picture exhibit of the Lane Community will also be available to view. This exhibit is composed primarily of pictures representing the earlier days of Lane. Among the growing collection are pictures of the Lane School over the years, the Lane Methodist Church and the Lane Country Store.
The Lane Cemetery is located along Hunt County Road 1133 in far northwest Hunt County. From the city of Celeste, go west on FM Highway 1562 about 4 miles. Turn north onto HC Road 1133 and go about a half-mile. The cemetery will be on the right.
