GREENVILLE —
A Hunt County man has pleaded not guilty to one count of intoxication assault, in connection with an injury accident which occurred in the fall of 2010.
Claude Hunter Harp Jr., 35, who listed a Wills Point mailing address in far south Hunt County, received one indictment from the Hunt County grand jury in December for intoxication assault.
Harp entered the not guilty plea during an arraignment hearing Thursday in the 354th District Court. Judge Richard A. Beacom accepted the plea, appointed an attorney to represent Harp and scheduled a tentative trial date for August 5.
The indictment alleged Harp was intoxicated when he was behind the wheel on November 23, 2010, when the vehicle he was driving left the roadway and crashed, causing serious bodily injuries to a male passenger.
Intoxication assault is a third degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 10 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
