Suspicious person reported near school bus in Greenville this morning

GREENVILLE — What may have been intended to be a harmless prank turned out to have very serious repercussions for a juvenile suspect this morning.

According to a report from the Greenville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 7:45 a.m. to the 1700 block of Stonewall Street, where a white male, with reddish brown hair and a beard, was spotted getting out of a small white car. The person was reported to have been wearing a backpack that appeared to have a rifle sticking out of the top of the backpack. The area was checked and the suspicious person was not located.

Approximately 15 minutes later, officers responded to the area of Dalton and Edgar streets where it was reported that a white male, wearing a mask, was carrying what appeared to be a rifle near a GISD school bus. The bus driver saw the suspicious person and immediately drove away from the area. The area was checked and the suspicious person was not located.

The police department indicated GISD staff provided video surveillance from the bus. Officers located a 15-year old male, who admitted to trying to scare a younger sibling with his actions. Police officers recovered a BB gun and mask that the suspect said he used in the incidents.
