GREENVILLE —
A bid is to be awarded Tuesday for a project to perform maintenance work on portions of some two dozen local streets.
The City Council will have to make a budget adjustment to pay for the current Street Improvement Program, the costs for which came in slightly higher than planned.
A public hearing is scheduled before the Council awards the bid to Austin Bridge and Road of Dallas, during Tuesday’s special session, starting at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.
The City of Greenville had to go out for bids for a second time on the 2012 Street Improvement Program, after costs for the work almost doubled the estimates for the project.
The program does not involve any new construction, but does include projects including overlaying, crack sealing and micro-surfacing of local streets. A segment of Industrial Drive, starting at the railroad crossing and proceeding 10 feet north on the north side, will receive a base repair. The current city budget dedicated $600,000 toward the program.
The first time around, the project received only one bid, which came in at more than $1.15 million.
Four bids were received the second time around, with the Austin Bridge and Road proposal coming in at $706,251.
The other streets included under the program include overlays on portions of Lark Street, Jamie Way, Patty J, Traci, Joanne Circle, Woodland Drive, Sayle Street, Polk Street, Walworth Street, Fourth Street, Park Street, King Street, Pine Street, Crockett Street, Logan Street and Spencer Street.
An overlay/crack seal is planned for Kingswood Circle.
Crack seal work is scheduled on portions of Westminister Street and Whitehall Street.
Micro-surfacing is planned for King Street, between Stanford and Joe Ramsey.
A micro-surfacing/crack seal is targeted for Oak Creek Drive between FM 1570 and Woodland.
Portions of Colony, Seminole and Ethan Drives will be leveled as needed.
