GREENVILLE —
The Greenville Planning and Zoning Commission Monday said it was in favor of granting a permit which would allow an automobile sales dealership to open along Wesley Street.
The Commission conducted a public hearing on the request for a conditional use permit before voting on whether to recommend approval of the permit to the City Council.
Agrarius LLC is seeking the permit for a used auto sales facility at 5900 Wesley Street.
City of Greenville Building Official Steve Methven told the Commission that the property is zoned general retail which allows for automobile sales with a conditional use permit.
Methven said the company intends to use the existing building at the site, which had at one time been an automobile sales lot.
“They are going to refurbish it,” Methven said.
Council member Douglas Felps said he had no problem with the request.
“I’m glad to see it used for something,” Felps said. “It has been a vacant lot for quite a while.”
Jerry Russell represented Agrarius and said the local business would be part of a chain of dealerships.
“We have a location in McKinney and we’re excited to be coming to Greenville,” Russell said.
No one from the public addressed the Commission Monday.
Commission member Benjamin Collins was also in support of the measure.
“I think anything they can do there would be an improvement,” Collins said.
The Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the permit to the Council, which will scheduled another public hearing before taking a final vote when it meets Oct. 9.
