Denison spoils Lady Lions' home finale
It was senior night at Monty Stratton Field Tuesday and the Greenville Lady Lions softball team honored Arian Alford, Sidney Tippit, Elizabeth Rutherford and Ashley Walden in pre-game ceremonies.
Denison then spoiled the Lady Lions' home finale, handing them a 10-4 loss. -

McKinney North and Lucas Lovejoy claimed the team titles on Friday night at the District 13-4A track and field championships.

A&M-Commerce holds track and field meet
Texas A&M University-Commerce won 15 events combined by the men’s and women’s track and field teams on Saturday at the East Texas Invitational meet at Memorial Stadium in Commerce.

Lady Lions claim four top soccer honors
Greenville's District 19-4A champions claimed four of the top honors on the all-district girls soccer team. Greenville senior Maddy Crabtree, who ranked among the top scorers in the Metroplex with 33 goals, shared the most valuable player award with Princeton senior Chele Naudin.

Wylie East blanks Greenville Lions
The Wylie East Raiders improved to 10-1 in District 13-4A baseball with a 7-0 shutout of the Greenville Lions at John Mason Field Friday.
Bryar Barnes took the mound victory, striking out 11 and giving up only two hits to Justin Koger and Tanner Knudson. -
Greenville Lions rank third at District 13-4A track and field meet
Carandall Hale and Hunter Smith scored some big points for the Greenville Lions on Thursday at the District 13-4A track and field meet.
Hale won the long jump and Smith claimed second in the shot put as the Lions emerged from the field events in third place in the team standings heading into this evening’s running finals that start at 6 p.m. at Royse City ISD Stadium. -
Greenville Lions overtake Wylie Pirates
The Greenville Lions scored three runs on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 3-2 win over the Wylie Pirates at John Mason Field Thursday in District 13-4A baseball.
“We finally made a play when we needed to,” said Greenville coach Cody Salyers. “Chris Hazlett did a good job on the mound, keeping us in the game. We finished this one. We’ve been talking about finishing games and we finished this one. That was a total team effort.” -
DeGarso earns spot in regional for Greenville Lions
Greenville sophomore Jonathon DeGarso overcame strong winds and a challenging layout to claim a spot in the Region II-4A golf tournament.
Battling wind gusts up to 41 mph, DeGarso kept the ball low most of the day on Tuesday to shoot an 84 at the Heritage Ranch Golf Course. That round gave him a 165 total for 36 holes, good for second place in the District 13-4A tournament. DeGarso will advance to the regional tournament on Monday and Tuesday at The Links at Waterchase course in Fort Worth. -
Steve Merten shoots 746; Laura Caneal rolls 576
Steve Merten led league bowlers for the past week at DB's Sports Grill & Bowling with a 746 series in the Guys Night Out league. His top game was a 278.
Laura Caneal led the women with a 576 series.

Charlotte Brown to receive high honor at state meet
Rains sophomore Charlotte Brown has been selected to receive a special award at the University Interscholastic League State Track and Field Championships in May.
Brown will be the 2013 Section 6 recipient of the National High School Spirit of Sport Award during a special ceremony on May 11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. - More Sports Headlines
