Soccer Lions make all-district
Two Greenville Lion players earned first-team honors on the All-District 19-4A boys soccer team.
Junior Manny Cruz and sophomore Mario Ochio made the top team. -
Wilson fires in 34 to lead North to 114-85 victory
Dartannon Wilson really looked at home on Saturday night in the first annual Chicken Express All-Star Basketball Classic.
Wilson poured in a game-high 34 points on his home court to secure most valuable player honors for his team and also lead the North to a 114-85 victory over the South at Greenville High School.
Wilson also had 12 rebounds, four assists and a couple of slam dunks that livened up a crowd of nearly 800. The 6-3 senior shot 15-of-20 from the field. -
McKinney North player helps North all-stars to 90-86 win
Alexis Mason fired in 29 points to earn most valuable player honors and lead the North to a 90-86 victory over the South in the first annual Chicken Express All-Star girls basketball game at the Lions Den Saturday night.
Mason, a 5-9 senior from McKinney North, also pulled down seven rebounds and handed out seven assists to claim MVP honors for the North team.
Royse City senior Krystal Pickron managed 20 points, 14 rebounds and two assists to claim MVP honors for the South team. -
Chicken Express all-star basketball games tip off tonight in Greenville
More than 40 of the best basketball players that Northeast Texas has to offer will be on hand tonight for the First Annual Chicken Express All-Star basketball Classic.
The girls game is set for a 6 p.m. start with the boys game to follow at 8 at the Greenville High School gym.
The North girls team is led by state tournament most valuable player Victoria Stretcher of Saltillo. Stretcher, a 6-1 post, led Saltillo to the state tournament this past season and a 32-6 record. She averaged 21.3 points per game and 12.4 rebounds. -
Greenville Lions beat Denison in home finale
The Greenville Lions honored seniors Matt Craig and Trevor White in pre-game ceremonies and then claimed their home baseball finale, 5-2 over Denison on Friday night at John Mason Field.
“I wish we could play Denison on senior night every night,” said Greenville head coach Cody Salyers. “It seems to be good luck for us. I’m glad the seniors got a win in their last game at John Mason Field.” -
Boles player selected for Chicken Express all-star basketball game
Hunter Jordan, a 6-1 guard from Quinlan Boles, will be among the stars who’ll come out Saturday night for the First Annual Chicken Express All-Star Basketball Classic in Greenville.
Jordan was named to the TABC All-State team after a brilliant career at Boles. He was a four-year starter and led Boles to the playoffs each of his four years. Jordan was the most valuable player of the district and ended his career with more than 2,000 points. In the playoffs this year, Jordan scored 36 points against North Hopkins, 37 against Lindsay and 26 versus Trenton. He averaged more than 20 points per game during his four-year career. He was all-region his junior and senior year. -
Boles Hornets clear hurdles on way to area track and field title
A forward somersault in the 300-meter hurdles helped the Boles Hornets take the area track and field team title on Wednesday.
Boles hurdler Justin Talley appeared to lose his stride heading into the next to last hurdle. Talley braced himself and then did a forward somersault over the hurdle, got back on his feet and still won the race by two seconds with his time of 44.21 seconds. -
Brandon Davidson shoots 769; Denise Harp rolls 647
Brandon Davidson led all league bowlers for the past week at DB's Sports Grill & Bowling in Greenville with a 769 series in the Guys Night Out. Davidson's top game was a 267.
Denise Harp topped the women with a 647 series in the Monday Thunder. Harp's top game was a 236.

Denison spoils Lady Lions' home finale
It was senior night at Monty Stratton Field Tuesday and the Greenville Lady Lions softball team honored Arian Alford, Sidney Tippit, Elizabeth Rutherford and Ashley Walden in pre-game ceremonies.
Denison then spoiled the Lady Lions' home finale, handing them a 10-4 loss. -
McKinney North, Lucas Lovejoy take track titles
McKinney North and Lucas Lovejoy claimed the team titles on Friday night at the District 13-4A track and field championships.
