Quinlan Ford opens playoffs against Van
Quinlan Ford is hoping to match or top last week’s production on offense as the Panthers open the 2009 football playoffs tonight in Royse City against the Van Vandals.
The opening kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at the Royse City ISD Stadium in Royse City.
Ford, which is 3-6 for the season, outscored Community 34-8 last week to earn third place in the District 13-3A standings and a playoff berth.
The Panthers rolled up 310 yards in that game including 262 yards rushing. Running back Colton Baxter led the Panther rushers with 85 yards on just four carries, including touchdown runs of 59 and 20 yards.
Al Balliette also ran for 47 yards on eight carries, including a 3-yard touchdown run.
Colton Scott also ran for a 7-yard touchdown and Manuel Castilleja booted field goals of 22 and 27 yards.
Ford quarterback Kyle Stone was 5-of-10 passing for 48 yards and ran for 50 yards on nine carries.
Castilleja also had a big game on defense with 11 tackles, including 10 solos.
Garrett Crosby recorded 12 tackles for Ford with eight solos and Patrick Lugo finished with 11 tackles, including seven solos.
Kevin Stone intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble for the Ford defense, which also picked up fumble recoveries from Chris Serrato, Colton Scott, Jason Petty and Leonard Elledge.
Van finished second to Wills Point in District 14-3A with a 4-1 record.
The Vandals won their district games by scores of 3-0 over Kemp, 20-13 over Mineola, 47-22 over Canton and 40-7 over Eustace. Their only district loss was 15-2 to Wills Point.
