Area high school teams wrap up regular season play

Boles 34, Wolfe City 20
WOLFE CITY — The No. 2 Boles Hornets survived a scare from Wolfe City to defeat the Wolves 34-20 in a showdown for the District 14-A football championship on Friday night.
Wolfe City started fast, using a 17-play drive that was capped off by a 1-yard run by quarterback Colt Herron. Ryan Smith kicked the extra point and the Wolves were up 7-0 with 47 seconds left in the first quarter.
North La,ar 26, Commerce 25
COMMERCE — The Commerce Tigers ended the 2009 football season with a 26-25 loss to North Lamar.
But the Tigers showed plenty of fight, rallying from a 13-0 deficit; going the length of the field in the final 1:22 of the game for a touchdown and then coming up an inch short on a two-point conversion attempt that would have won the game.
Cumby 28, Celeste 14
CELESTE — The Cumby Trojans locked up a football playoff berth in District 14-A with a 28-14 victory over the Celeste Blue Devils on Friday night.
Cumby, now 6-4 for the season, advances to the Class A bi-district playoffs to face Lindsay at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Princeton.
Daniel Degatau rushed for 139 yards on 12 carries to spark the Trojans, who ran for 332 yards and passed for 54.
Leonard 35, Honey Grove 7
LEONARD — Leonard will take an 8-2 record into a Class 2A bi-district playoff against Omaha Paul Pewitt, after beating Honey Grove 35-7 on Friday night.
Leonard’s Reggie Robinson returned the opening kickoff 66 yards for a touchdown. The try for two failed, and the score stood 6-0 in the first minute of the game.
Lucas Lovejoy 64, Rains 26
LUCAS — Rains senior quarterback Trevor Vandeventer finished the season with 1,332 yards of passing, getting 151 of those in the Wildcats’ 64-26 loss to Lucas Lovejoy on Friday night.
Vandeventer had two rushing touchdowns and two touchdown passes on the night.
Quinlan Ford 34, Community 8
QUINLAN — Quinlan Ford’s Panthers locked up a playoff berth in football with a 34-8 victory over the Community Braves on Friday night.
The victory gives the 3-6 Panthers third place in District 13-3A. The two teams had been tied for third place at 2-2.
Ford will face Van at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Royse City in Division II of the Class 3A playoffs.
Royse City 55, R.L. Turner 33
CARROLLTON — The Royse City Bulldogs intercepted four passes and recovered one fumble to hand the Carrollton R.L. Turner Lions their 10th loss for the football season on Saturday.
Royse City routed the Lions 55-33 in the final game of the 2009 season to finish at 1-9.
