City golfers place in state tourney

GREENVILLE —   Seven members of the City of Greenville summer golf team earned top-four finishes at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Summer Games of Texas state tournament.

  The seven placed in their age groups during play at the Oso Beach Golf Course and Lozano Golf Center in Corpus Christi last week. The girls tournament was at Oso and the boys played at Lozano.

  Mia Nixon from the team won the girls 7-9 age group with a 98 for 18 holes. Nixon shot nines of 50 and 48.

  Sailor Casstevens was fourth in the boys 7-9 age group with a 101 for 18 holes. Casstevens fired nines of 50 and 51.

  Ryan Fitzgerald was second in the boys 10-11 group, shooting a 90 for 18 holes. His nines were 44 and 46.

  Andy Mitchell was third in the boys 10-11 with a 94 for 18 holes (44-50).

  Skylair Wooten finished fourth in boys 10-11 with a 101 for 18 holes (51-50).

  Jonathon DeGarso was second in boys 14-15 with 168 for 36 holes. DeGarso shot 18s of 86 and 82.

  David Weaks was fourth in the boys 14-15 with a 189 total that included 95 and 94 for the 18-hole scores.

  The City of Greenville team is coached by Wright Park Municipal pro Bo Hartline, who also serves as the state commissioner of golf for the TAAF.
