WOLFE CITY —
Quinlan Ford assistant football coach Jim Coker helped his team to the low score on Friday at the 2010 Ernest Hawkins Golf Classic at Webb Hill Country Club.
Coker, who’s also a former Greenville High School and East Texas State football player, paired with Dr. Fred Blohm, Jim Stahl, Eric Westerman and Ricky Early to shoot a 15-under score of 57 for 18 holes.
They won by two strokes over the team of Dr. Greg Hulsey, Dr. Marc McDaniel, Dr. Jeff Wallace and Kevin Weable.
Third place with a 61 went to the team of Jordan Blair, Kevin Harris and Darryl Blair.
Brothers Mel and Kevin Fox teamed with their cousin, Rex Fox, to place fourth with a 62.
Fifth place at 63 went to a lineup of basketball coaches including Sam Walker, Jack Birkner, Doug Peak and Paul Peak. Walker is currently the head men’s basketball coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce and Paul Peak is a former head basketball coach and athletic director for the Lions.
The tournament, named for A&M-Commerce’s winningest football coach, is the primary fundraiser for the A&M-Commerce athletic department. Hawkins was in attendance.
Among the other competing golfers were former Lion head football coach Eddie Vowell and Stan Wagnon, the commissioner of the Lone Star Conference.
