GREENVILLE —
It took an eight-time winner on the big tour to defeat local bowler Joe Findling in the championship game of the PBA Southwest Region Cheetah Open on Sunday in Lubbock.
Findling made it all the way to the finals before falling to Mike Scroggins, 258-235. Scroggins, a left-hander from Amarillo, has won eight titles on the PBA tour and $1,170,783 in career earnings.
Findling is a right-hander from Mesquite who operates the Champions Choice pro shop at DB’s Sports Grill & Bowling in Greenville.
Findling, who earned $2,500 with his runner-up finish, defeated PBA tour regular, Dino Castillo, 234-223 in the semifinals. Findling averaged 235 for 30 games in the tournament.
“I threw it better this week than I have probably in two years,” he said.
Findling, who also finished fourth at the PBA Southwest/Midwest Region Wichita Open in June, leads the PBA Southwest Region in points with 82,431. Scroggins ranks seventh with 47,519.
Findling will likely facemany of the state’s top bowlers again at the PBA Southwest Region Greenville Scorpion Open on Aug. 24-26 at DB’s.
