Susie Thrash

Susie Will Brigham Thrash, 991⁄2, was the youngest child of five children born to Charlie Bill Brigham and Della Walker on Feb. 18, 1913, in Neylandville.

She received her education from St. Paul High School and made all of her children go to college, whether they wanted to or not.

During a very early age she attended and became a member of New Bethel CME Church. She loved to sing “church songs” and singing in the choir. When she was unable to go to church, all day Sunday she would sing gospel songs on the gospel channel. Her favorite time of the week was planning what she was going to wear to church on Sunday.

Mrs. Susie Thrash lived a long life of hard work and extreme independence with a strong sense of humor.

She constantly told her family members that the Lord left her here to “straighten them out.” She departed this life on Aug. 16, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, King Solomon Thrash; her parents; three sons, Newell, Darrell, and Billy Sol; five grandchildren; three brothers, Boysie, Elliott “Bunt,” and Ellis “Feedie”; a sister, Ester; two nieices; and three nephews.

She leaves to mourn her death a daughter, Doris Lavona Price; a son, A.Y. Thrash (Helen); 12 grandchildren; many great-nieces and nephews; and other dedicated family and friends.

Her homegoing service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel CME Church in Neylandville with Rev. Fredrick Thompson as eulogist followed by  burial at St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Grace & Mercy-Grundy Funeral Home.
