James Roam

James R. Roam, a decorated Vietnam veteran, passed away Sept. 18, 2012, at Texas Presbyterian Hospital from complications of diabetes.

Jim served two tours in Vietnam between 1967 and 1969. He was a helicopter mechanic and crew chief flying into enemy territory daily. Jim also served in the Navy after his time in the Army.

 Jim retired from General Services Administration in Kansas City, Mo., after working a few years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Jim leaves behind his sister Denise and brother-in-law Ken. He had lived with them in their care the past four years after suffering a stroke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Roam and Norma L. Swentor.

A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crestview Christian Church in Greenville. Jim will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
