Lois Tracy

Lois Hayes Tracy, 88, of Greenville passed away March 12, 2013, in Greenville.

Lois was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Commerce to Susie Blythe and Ford Ercanbrack. She was married to her first husband, Dr. David C. Hayes of Paris, and, later to Richard Tracy of Denison.

She was a teacher at Texas Southmost College and East Texas State University. Lois had  earned bachelor of science and master of arts degrees. She had published “Place Names of Concholand” for her friend and mentor, Dr. Fred Tarpley of ETSU.

She was also an accomplished author, clothing designer, cook, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and a choir member at the First Christian Church of Paris.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyne Hayes Daugherty and husband Scott of Commerce; her sister, Audie Bennett of The Colony; her stepsister, Helen Dickson of Commerce; her grandchildren Jennifer Schmidth and husband Scott of Garland, John David Burk and wife Debi of Austin, Melanie Burk Harlin and husband Jeff of Mertzon, Justin Burk and wife Michelle of Indiatlantic, Fla., and Jessica Daugherty Marcy and husband Jason of Azle; her 14 great-grandchildren; her great-great-granddaughter, Hannah; her great-great grandson, Paxton; an anxiously awaited great-great-granddaughter, Elise; four nieces; a nephew; her son-in-law, John D. Burk of San Angelo; numerous friends; and many extended family members.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her daughter, Sherry Hayes Burk; her infant daughter, Patricia; and, her brother-in-law, Preston Bennett.

At a later date the family will have private memorial services in San Angelo and South Padre Island.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to any SPCA or any humane society organization.

The family would like to thank the loving staff of Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville and Dr. Rick Selvaggi for the compassionate care she received in her twilight years.
