GREENVILLE — Bettye Ruth Garrett Simmons, 74, of West Tawakoni passed away Aug. 13, 2012, in Greenville.

She was born July 1, 1938, near Quinlan. She attended Trinity Valley Community College in Terrell where she studied nursing and received her LVN in 1971.

She married Robert Simmons on March 25, 1978. They loved to travel in their RV and go on fishing trips. He preceded her in death 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Alisa Sanders and husband Ty of Greenville; two granddaughters, Karlen Sanders and Camelin Sanders, both of Greenville; David Garrett and wife Jan of East Tawakoni; two sisters, Judith Allen of West Tawakoni and Dorothy Robinson of Lone Oak; a special foster daughter, Lisa Sanders of Greenville; three foster grandchildren, Almetta Sanders, Destiny Sanders and Timothy Sanders, all of Greenville; former husband and special friend John Keith Fleming and wife Brenda of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lynch Funeral Service chapel in Greenville with Father Paul Weinberger, pastor of St. William Catholic Church of Greenville, officiating. Interment will follow in McBride Cemetery in Quinlan.

Visistation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
