Dwight Gardner

WOLFE CITY — Henry Dwight Gardner, 92, of Duncanville and a former longtime Wolfe City resident, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Laurenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Duncanville.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home chapel with Charles Landreth officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Gardner was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Wolfe City; the son of Steward James and Ora Pearl Goodwin Gardner. He married Clarice Macon on June 7, 1941, in Leonard.

He served as Wolfe City Postmaster for several years. He was a member of the board of directors of Mount Carmel Cemetery and served on the Wolfe City Independent School District Board of Trustees. He was a Army veteran; having served in World War II.

Surviving are three daughters, Jean Erwin and husband Gary of Spring, Joan Cole and husband Ron of Waxahachie and Jan Hunnicutt of Plano; three grandsons, Chad Cole, Ged Erwin and Jason Cole; four granddaughters, Meredith Hendricks, Heather Crockett, Amy McElfish and Monica Fracht; 15 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Charlsie Gardner of Commerce; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, James Gardner.

Pallbearers are Chad Cole, Ged Erwin, Trey McElfish, Mark Crockett, Drew Hendricks, Adam Fracht and Larry Macon. Honorary pallbearers are J.T. Woodruff, Reuben Milton and Charles Ranly.
